A note to my team: Let’s fly higher!

I got an email this morning, it’s a notification of my 1st work anniversary at Comika. It caused me a lot of thinking, “Wow, I went through it? Because I never thought it would go well at first.”

Throwback to the first time Angga Diandry reached and offered me this responsibillities. As a single-fighter back then, I’d rather work alone than being in a team — or should I say leading a team(?). I have only few experiences in leadership and from my perspective, it was still not enough. However, this challenge didn’t let me think for other option, so I decided to accept it.

Along with time, I realized that being a leader isn’t just an enormous and challenging decision, this also crucial for both my personal and professional growth. Even though it was difficult, I can say it is a blessing in disguise, since I learned a lot.

I begin to listen to understand, not to reply. I used to be a boisterous person. What’s bad about it is whenever someone did or said something that didn’t sit well with me, I would immediately interrupt and tell them the exact opposite. I know, it’s exasperating in teamwork.

Then, I change my approach. I tried to be more silent and observant— it actually helped me to understand the situation way better. From someone with impulsive behavior, to a calm and serene person.

Leadership gave me some basic understanding of what forces people to make decision. Whether it’s motivation or past regrets. Sometimes it is influenced by the character of each person. In many cases as a leader, I find it difficult to communicate my vision to my team members.

At one time, I pondered to find solution of it. I remember how my previous leader empowered me, and I noticed that they always empathized with me. Since then, almost everytime I talk to my team members, empathy always comes first. Everyone has a different approach and this is one of the best ways to motivate and stimulate my team’s highest potential. After all, it does help get the job done.

Working at Comika make me understand that there will always a bigger picture to what we’re currently doing. There will always a dot to connect and our job is to find it by ourselves.

I used to be Pandji Pragiwaksono’s Personal Videographer. I followed him everywhere almost everyday for a year. Imagine how many dots I’ve got from him and when I decided to join Comika, I knew exactly that this is the time to connect those dots.

For now, I can almost see the bigger picture of my own journey. It is understandable that my job here is not just to manage Comika’s Social Media, but rather to shape my team’s future and help them become a leader, at least for themselves.

Bunch of thanks dedicated to my mentors I mentioned above and also to my team: SMDC Team at Comika. For a splendid and better future, let’s fly higher!
